Word Challenge
Would you like to make English easier?
Science has shown that one of the most important parts of learning a language has to do with growing in vocabulary (words). Here is an example of that research.
For the beginner, these words may actually be single letters or numbers. For the advanced student, it may be an idiom or the conjugation of an irregular verb.
But there’s another reason to focus on vocabulary…
Vocabulary learning helps you stay motivated
More Benefits of Vocabulary Learning
Building a robust vocabulary has several benefits for people learning English as a second language:
- Improved comprehension: A larger vocabulary leads to better understanding of texts and conversations.
- Enhanced communication: With more words at their disposal, learners can express themselves more accurately and fluently.
- Increased confidence: Knowing the right words to use boosts learners’ confidence in their language abilities.
Two gifts to help you
For some of you, it will be a new skill to practice the same words over and over until you can remember them easily and quickly and for a long time. So we want to help you learn how to learn by offering two gifts. The first gift is a small word book for you to write your new words in.
Your teachers will introduce around 10 new words a week. So if you’re practicing your complete list of words each day so that they become automatic, you should be able to do all 50 words by the 6th week. Of course, if you need longer that’s fine. And if you miss a week, that’s ok: just keep adding words when you come back.
It will be important to carry your word book with you, it is small enough so you can put it in your pocket or purse. This way you can review words every day.
Please be patient with yourself… language learning is a skill like learning a musical instrument or a sport or a new recipe. We have to make a lot of mistakes before we can succeed.
The second gift will be after you can say 50 words from your teacher without any mistakes. It will be a $10 gift card to Amazon or Walmart – you choose which (a gift card is like cash that you can use at that store).
When you’re ready to get started, just ask your teacher.
